Curtis C. Vedros

Curtis Cyrill “Rooster” Vedros, a resident of Independence, Louisiana, passed away on November 2, 2026, at the age of 88. He was born on March 18, 1938, in Lockport, Louisiana.

In 1978, Curtis and his wife, Amanda, moved their family to Independence, Louisiana, where they would establish their home and begin raising horses and cattle on their small family farm. Throughout his life, Curtis was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family. He began his career at Underwood Glass Company in New Orleans, later worked for Kent's Trailer Company in Fluker, Louisiana, and ultimately retired from Ross and Wallace Paper Company in Hammond, Louisiana.

In retirement, Curtis found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed tending to his vegetable gardens, working on projects around the house, feeding his cows with his grandchildren every afternoon, and watching old Westerns, especially Gunsmoke. Above all, he cherished the quiet moments spent sitting on the front porch with his beloved wife, Amanda, their dog, Bella, by his side, and a Barq's root beer in his hand. It was in these ordinary moments, surrounded by the home and family they had built together, that Curtis found his greatest contentment.

He is survived by his children, Sara Badon and husband, Donny, and Paul Vedros and wife, Sharon; brothers, Manuel Vedros and wife, Elaine, and Eugene “Geno” Vedros; grandchildren, Christopher Badon, Katie Badon, Summer Robertson, and Nicole Ruiz and husband, Joel; great-grandchildren, Jennifer Watson, Riley Hubbard, Isabella Ruiz, and Joey “Joel” Ruiz; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Amanda LeBlanc Vedros; parents, Oderick Vedros and Maude Griffin Vedros; brothers, Dale Vedros and Earl Vedros; sister, Helen Thibodeaux; sister-in-law, Barbara Vedros; and grandchild, Robbie Madden.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated caregivers and staff at The Lodge at Tangi Pines, especially Mrs. Loretta, Mrs. Felecia Jackson, and Mr. Leroy, for the kindness, compassion, and loving care they provided Curtis. They treated him like he was their own, and the family will forever be grateful for the comfort and dignity they brought to his final months.
