George Lewis Hyde, age 99, passed away on October 31, 2026, with his daughter, Beth, by his side. George was born on September 17, 1927, and was a lifelong resident of the Chesbrough community. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, determination, and a life well lived.
A retired dairy farmer, George embraced challenges and was never afraid to pursue opportunities others might have overlooked. His curiosity, courage, and resourcefulness shaped both his work and the life he built.
George had a love for the simple joys in life, especially farming, visiting with family and friends, and running the roads to see where the day might take him. He was particularly interested in real estate and was always on the lookout for a wise investment. George never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone, always enjoying the opportunity to visit or share a story. He was a man of prayer and valued his faith deeply. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. One of his greatest joys was hearing about the latest adventures of his great-grandsons, and he took every opportunity to proudly share their stories with anyone willing to listen.
George was welcomed to his heavenly home by his beloved wife of 75 years, Millie Hyde; his son, Gerald Hyde; his infant daughter, Bonnie Mildred Hyde; his parents, Willie and Lillian Hyde; his sisters, Ruth Hyde Spring and Wilda Hyde Hayden; and his son-in-law, Norman Foxworth.
Left to treasure many wonderful memories are his daughter, Beth Foxworth; his granddaughters, Katee Laborde (Brian) and Amy Rivet (Brian); and his great-grandsons, Evan and Spencer Laborde and John Rivet.
A service to honor his memory will be held at McKneely Funeral Home in Amite at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 5, 2026. Friends will be received at 1:30 PM for visitation. Reverend Larry Blades will conduct the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor George’s memory by doing something he would have loved—enjoy a drive on a beautiful day and take a moment to count your blessings.
