James Edmund Thomas, age 81 of McComb MS and formerly of Tupelo MS passed away after a brief illness on August 25, 2024. He is survived by his sister Beverly (Erv) Martens of Mequon WI, sister-in-law Susan Payne Tanner of McComb MS and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins across the country. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 55 years, Carol, and his sisters Delores Hoernke and Joanne Bader and their spouses.

Born in Duluth MN, Jim was the youngest child and only son of Percy and Mabel Thomas. Growing up with three older sisters was probably quite challenging, but he survived with his ever present dry wit, sense of humor and kind nature. At the age of three his family moved to a farm near Dresser WI where they remained until moving to Milwaukee in 1952. He graduated from Pulaski High School in 1960 and attended Milwaukee Institute of Technology, Western Michigan University and Spencerian Business College. Jim embarked on a sales career that would place him in the furniture industry for most of his career. On March 2, 1968 he married the love of his life, Carol Payne. They moved many times during their years together, finally settling in Tupelo MS where they lived for 35 years. They found their spiritual family at Harrisburg Baptist Church and were faithful and supportive members. Although Jim and Carol were not blessed with children, they cherished their nieces and nephews, delighting in their accomplishments and those of their families. They followed everyone's life, asking questions, lending support and were genuinely interested. They were dearly loved by all.

A memorial service was held at the McKneely Funeral Home in Amite, LA on August 26. A prayer service and interment of Jim and Carol will be held at El Salem Cemetery, Ubet WI in the fall. Memorials may be directed to Samaritan's Purse.
