Obituary

John W. "Jimmie" Casanova died May 24, 2023 at North Oaks Medical Center. He was born February 15, 1935 and was 88 years old. He belonged to St. Dominic Catholic Church, Husser. He was a proud U. S. Army Veteran having served in Germany. His great passions were logging and sawmilling timber, beef animals, and Oliver Tractors. He logged and helped operate a sawmill for much of his life with his brother and had beef cows until he was 85 years old. He could often be seen driving his Oliver tractor checking on his herd. He enjoyed talking to anybody and everybody. He had endless stories about the past history of the Husser-Amite area where he was born, raised, and lived until his death. Revelation 21:4 "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." He is survived by a brother, Austin Casanova (Mary Ellen); niece, Lana Casanova; nephews, Dwight Casanova, Jr. and Michael Casanova; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife, Janet Bates Casanova; brother, Dwight Casanova, Sr. (Verma); and his parents, Monroe and Virena Husser Casanova. A private graveside was held at St. Dominic Cemetery on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. Arrangements were entrusted to McKneely Funeral Home, Amite. For an online guestbook, visit http://www.mckneelys.com.
