Obituary

Veda Casey Misita, 93 years old, peacefully left this Earth surrounded by family and entered her eternal home on July 2, 2023.   She was born November 27, 1929 in Laveen, Arizona to Alexander Conley Casey and Clarissa Elizabeth Garrison. She grew up in Mesa, Arizona, one of 14 children.   As a young woman she met the love of her life, a handsome soldier, on a blind date and they quickly fell in love and were married only months later on October 2, 1951.  She left everything she knew behind and moved to Amite, Louisiana where together she and her husband raised a beautiful family and were hard working, respected members of their community.  Veda was raised Mormon but converted to Catholicism in 1991 when she became a member of St. Helena Catholic Church and she remained a faithful woman of Christ until her death.

She was an active member of her beloved church, volunteering for many years at God's Storehouse and assisting with the RCIA program.  She enjoyed going to the casino, playing cards with her friends, and cheering for her family in all of their many endeavors. Lovingly referred to as "Coach" by her husband, she had a vibrant, beautiful spirit and showed love and compassion to everyone she met.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and woman of extraordinary faith who will be missed by everyone that was blessed to know her.

She is survived by her six children, Regina Oliver (Tim), Mary Daunis (Mark), Roy Misita (Mary Kaye), Cynthia Reid (Chuck), Kathy Schilling (Lee), and Kevin Misita; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and an extremely large extended family all across the country.  She is preceded in death by her parents, 13 brothers and sisters including her best friend and twin sister, Verda Rice, daughter-in-law, Linda Kaye Misita, and her husband, Salvador "Igie" Misita.

Special thank you to all of her caregivers, especially the staff at The Lodge at Tangi Pines for their exceptional care of our mom.

Services will be held Friday, July 7th, at St. Helena Catholic Church in Amite.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Church Hall to be followed by a mass at the Church.  Graveside services immediately following at Amite Memorial Gardens.  McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, is in charge of arrangements.
