Obituary

Vivian Thibodaux Laird, 94, of Gainesville, Virginia, passed away on January 22, 2023. She was born on June 5, 1928 in Destrehan, Louisiana, to Robert and Daisy (Duet) Thibodaux. As a teenager, she served as a plane spotter during WWII for the Aircraft Warning Service, III Fighter Command, US Army Air Forces. She graduated valedictorian of her class from Thibodaux High School. She married the love of her life and together they raised three children. She was a skilled seamstress, making clothes for her family and herself. She had a career working as a secretary, bookkeeper, and office manager. After retirement she was very active in her local senior center. She took up quilting (all by hand) and won many awards for her quilts, including Viewer's Choice at a five state show. She was always active in her church, over time serving as youth leader, Sunday school teacher, and church secretary. In 2003, she moved to Virginia where she lived with her daughter's family until her passing.

Vivian joins her parents, Robert and Daisy Thibodaux, her loving husband Ellison Laird, her son Ronald "Ronnie" Laird, her brothers Robert Thibodaux, Vincent Thibodaux, Vernon Thibodaux, Paul Thibodaux, sisters Edith Austin and Marion LeBoeuf. She is survived by her Children David (Janice) Laird of Lake Charles, La, and Janet (Denny) Daugherty of Gainesville, VA, and Daughter in Law Billie Jo Laird of Ponchatoula, LA; Grandchildren Chris (Sharon) Daugherty, Virginia "Gin" Daugherty, Jon Daugherty, Sara Laird, Amy Laird, Jessica Laird, and Katie Laird; Nineteen Great-Grandchildren ; Sister Barbara (Dudley) Chauvin of Schriever, LA; numerous Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.

Vivian's family will greet friends from 1:00PM –2:00 PM on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at McKneely Funeral Home (110 E. Factory Street, Amite City, Louisiana 70422), with funeral services beginning at 2:00 PM. Graveside service will follow at Arcola-Roseland Cemetery.
